About Us
Duane was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ. After graduating high school, Duane joined the United States Army and became a UH-60 Blackhawk crew chief. Duane served for over 20 years in the active Army and the Arizona Army National Guard as a crew chief, pilot and maintenance officer. Duane was also a member of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), so if any Nightstalkers are in the area, stop by and be sure to ask for your discount! After his career in the Army, Duane worked with a number of defense contracts managing a wide variety of programs supporting the military. He's an all-around handy man, carpenter, gardener, cook, woodworker - oh, and he's a pretty good vintner as well.
Duane has been making award winning wine for over 10 years to include winning silver at the Indy International Wine Competition. Many people have asked him to make wine for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, etc., so we decided to open our own winery as our "retirement" job. The property is so beautiful that we felt we needed to share it with others, so we will be making improvements to also become a wedding venue.
A little about Allison...
I was born in Sarasota, FL to a couple of beautiful, young, hippy parents. I was blessed with 6 younger siblings (two brothers and four sisters). Mom and dad instilled appreciation of all humanity, regardless of background or ethnicity. My dad, Tommy Pegues, ceaselessly pointed out the beauty in nature around us. Whether pointing out sunrises, sunsets, moonlit skies, or emerging garden crops, he wanted to make sure we didn’t overlook the gifts around us. I can’t tell you how many times he would call to excitedly say, Allison go outside and check out the moon!
Our family moved, a lot. By the time I got to the University of AL, I had attended 17 different schools. While the constant change may sound rough, it afforded me confidence to embrace change. Following my graduation from the UA school of social work, I continued moving around the US as a military spouse. Our family settled in beautiful north Alabama in order to be close to my aging dad, grandmother, and several wonderful aunts and uncles.
I have the privilege of being mom to my two incredible children Ben and Claire, and a few years ago gained two awesome bonus children Kaycee and Matt, after uniting with Duane. Blending families is sometimes tricky, but I am thankful for our diverse family every day and wouldn’t want it any other way.
I’ve worked for a wonderful US government defense contractor in Huntsville, AL and have volunteered as a Court Appointed Juvenile Advocate (CAJA) for several years. I am passionate about gatherings with our family and friends, child advocacy, and support for the US military. My hobbies and interests are decorating (I love a dramatic before and after), cooking, crafting, and photography.
When we met, Duane introduced me to good wine, which was eye-opening. The delicious taste and depth of the wine he creates is truly something to be shared. We are looking forward to this new adventure, and the opportunities the winery will give us for gathering with the ones we love, both old and new friends and family. Oh, and I am pushing hard for some goats, chickens, and mini-donkeys to add to our current pet family of cats and dogs. I envision visitors to the winery enjoying not just the deliciously unique wine, but also a few farm animals while visiting our vineyard.
